"Unveiling My Life and Experiences: A Journey of Growth and Understanding"

A new journey as a Masters student at UNSW, Sydney

Hello and Welcome to my First Blog. My name is Yash Mohan, and I am pursuing a Master's in Engineering Program ( Accredited by Engineers Australia) with a major in Civil Engineering from UNSW, Sydney. I am focused and hardworking in my career as a Civil Engineer. Some of my interests and subjects that I have taken in my master's include Concrete Structures, Advanced Materials Technology, Reinforce Concrete Design, Pavement Engineering etc.

My Internship experience working as a Civil Engineer Intern in the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi, India

I have a month-long internship experience in the Public Works Department (PWD), in Delhi, India. During this time, I worked with a group of Site Engineers from PWD and L&T ( Primary contractor), on a project " Redevelopment of the area in and around Pragati Maidan".

The Pragati Maidan area in Delhi has always been a central hub of global business and trade worth Billions of Dollars! With time, it was becoming increasingly congested with visitors of over 100,000 visiting annually. Apart from this, a major requirement is to conduct the G20 2023 Leaders Summit in New Delhi which requires a state-of-the-art convention centre. Due to its central location and big area, the decision was made to redevelop it.

This involves the construction of a 6-lane, 1.3 km-long tunnel connecting the Pragati Maidan which will ease the traffic conditions and provide a safe underground passage to the basement of the building. A major part of the project involving the construction of a convention centre was implemented by a separate agency as many different companies were part of a project of such a large scale.

The challenge of the project was a part of the tunnel that had to pass below 7 live railway lines! For this, a different approach was followed. 1300 tons. cast-in-situ Box Culverts were used and pushed against the soil (after digging) using hydraulic jacks installed on all sides.

Everyday a new experience

Every day is a new challenge, a new experience and a chance for growth, grasping this opportunity is the way to improve our skills and unveil our true potential.

Thank you!
